Prêt-à-Porter means ready-to-wear. It is the terms for garments sold in finished condition in standard sizes, as distinct from made-to-measure or bespoke clothing tailored to a particular person’s frame.

Exploring the intersection of Fashion & Furniture, crossing boundaries – this is an adventure! The chair as a body, and a body as a chair….

Inspired by the great fashion designers (think Guo Pei, Balenciaga, Yves St Laurent) and fashion photographers Irving Penn and Richard Avedon, we’ve created the concept of merging the form of a chair with clothing, as an anthropomorphic expression.

About the Designers

Thayer Hopkins & Ellen Rothstein, are co-founders of Oceans Atelier, an atelier of architects, artists and designers who have been creatively envisioning and producing for many decades. It is a perfect collaboration of Thayer’s background as an architect, designer and furniture maker, whose grandfather studied at the Beaux-Arts, and Ellen’s background as a visual artist, tracing her love of fabrics to her artist mother and seamstress grandmother.
